Harold A. West was born on July 12, 1920. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed In Action on July 13, 1944 in China on a detached service while flying with another crew (14th AF). B-24 #44-40573 "Esky II" crashed while attempting to take off from Chenkung (China) airfield. He is now buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Comstock Park, Kent County, Michigan, USA.

2Lt West was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
