Reid Talmage Woodward was born on July 3, 1918 in New York. He was the son of Donald Woodward and Florence May Stobie Woodward. He served in the US Army Air Forces as a First Lieutenant and Pilto of an aircraft during World War II. Reid was killed on a night mission flight "over the hump", while taking supplies over the Himalayan mountains in China. He is now buried in the Machpelah Cemetery, Le Roy, Genesee County, New York, USA.

1Lt Woodward was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
