William Walter Deen, III was born on December 25, 1920 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. He was the son of William Walter Deen and Bettie Leigh Thornhill Deen. He served in the US Air Corps as a Captain during World War II. He died on August 1, 1945 at the age of 24 in China and is now buried in the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA. CPT Deen was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but ranked as a First Lieutenant.
