Comments:

Robert G. Delcamp was born in 1918 in Indiana. He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 24, 1942 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Married. Robert served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on OA-10 #41-18772, Headquarters Squadron, Tenth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

There is "limited" information on OA-10 #41-18772. It was previously part of the U.S. Navy but was transferred to the U.S. Air Force. They are known to have either landed in or crashed into the Bay of Bengal off India. Based on the awards it is strongly believed that it was due to enemy action against them. Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

There are some records that note this crash occurred on February 14, 1944. It is unknown which date is correct. 1Lt Delcamp was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-02-18.
