Robert Francis "Ace" Dersch was born on October 17, 1920 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He served in the 16th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He died on August 31, 1943 at the age of 22 in China and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. 1Lt Dersch was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945.
