Herbert W. Diets was born on November 24, 1923. He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war. Herbert served as a Private and Radio Operator of an aircraft in the U.S. Army during World War II. He died as a result of a "Non Battle" related incident during the war and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. Pvt Diets was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
