Carleton C. Dutton was born on was born on December 6, 1916 in Cicero, Onondaga County, New York. He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war. Carleton served as a Major, 69th Composite Wing, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He died in the "Line Of Duty" when he parachuted out of a C-47 and didn't survive the jump during the war. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. He was a passenger of an aircraft at the time of his death.

Major Dutton was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his name is inscribed as Charlton.
