Comments:

Glenn Richard Feickert was born on August 3, 1921 in Jamestown, Stutsman County, North Dakota. He was the only child of Henry and Estelle Feickert. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon in 1940.

Glen served in the 6th Fighter Squadron during World War II as a Corporal and Engineer of an aircraft during World War II. He died on February 27, 1945 at the age of 23 in Myanmar and is now buried in the Lincoln Memorial Park, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA. Lt. Feickert was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on February 27, 1945. He displayed leadership, determination and skill in dive-bombing and strafing enemy ground troop gun positions. As element leader, he took over the flight when the flight leader was forced to return to his base because of mechanical trouble. With cool determination and utter disregard for personal danger, the lieutenant made a dive bombing pass and repeated strafing passes at enemy gun positions holding up our ground advance, despite the fact that his plane was severely damaged by enemy fire.

1Lt Feickert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
