Nick Gazibara was born on December 18, 1922 in Export, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Bozo Gazibara and Violet Zatezalo Gazibara. He served in the 74th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Nick died as a result of a fighter plane accident in Kanchow, China. His body was later placed aboard a C-47 for evacuation. The C-47 transport crashed in terrible weather somewhere between Kanchow and Chihkiang. His body was never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1Lt Gazibara was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
