Roy G. Hoffman was born on August 27, 1906. He served as an armorer on the HQ Staff of the AVG Flying Tigers in Burma and India. Major Hoffman died on August 25, 1943 at the age of 36 while serving in the 14th Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India theater of WWII. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.

Maj Hoffman was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
