Warner B. Humphreys was born on April 14, 1910 in Virginia. He was a Milwaukee Cooperage Co. employee before entering the service. He served in the US Army Air Forces as a Private during World War II. He had been wounded in Kunming, China, while serving with an army tank destroyer battalion. Warner died on June 2, 1945, in a Hilo, Hawaii, hospital and is now buried in the Glen Oaks Cemetery, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA.

Private Humphreys was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
