Truman O. Jeffreys was born on March 20, 1920. He was the son of Robert O. Jeffreys and Eliza Olive Debo. He entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1939 and trained at Chanute Field, Hicks Field, Goodfellow Field, and Turner Field and had served in Puerto Rico, South America and China.

Truman served with the 74th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group ("Flying Tigers"). He was officially credited with one confirmed aerial victory in an engagement on July 23, 1943. He was Killed In Action on August 20, 1943, in China while flying a P-40K 42-9752 (MACR 460). He is now buried in the Northview Cemetery, Winters, Runnels County, Texas, USA.

CPT Jeffreys was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
