Charles Robert Mostoller, Sr. was born on April 18, 1910 in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Webster Xerxes Mostoller and Gladys Nevada Miller Mostoller. He served in the US Air Corps as a Captain and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He died on January 9, 1943 at the age of 32 in Myanmar and is now buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Stoystown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA.

CPT Mostoller was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1943-01-03.
