John W. Poole was born on August 25, 1911 in Georgia. He enlisted at Fort McPherson, Atlanta April 15, 1942. He served in the 375th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. He died on June 13, 1945 in India at the age of 33 and is now buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia, USA.

Tsgt Poole was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
