George Vinton Pyles was born on December 10, 1920. He was the son of Dennis Wilmer Pyles and Nina Theo Dove Pyles. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He died on January 16, 1945 at the age of 24 and is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. 2Lt Pyles was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
