Mervin L. Stanton entered the military service in Washington. He served in the 61st Bomber Squadron, 39th Bomber Group, Very Heavy as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was declared "Missing in Action" on May 15, 1945 and is commemorated on the Courts of the Missing, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. Ssgt Stanton was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
