James C. Vurgaropulos was born on February 22, 1919 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He served in the 23rd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He died on June 29, 1944 in China at the age of 25 and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. 1Lt Vurgaropulos was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945.
