Raymond C. Ziolkowski was born in 1920 in Connecticut. He resided in New Haven County, Connecticut and was a member of the Connecticut National Guard prior to the war. His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on January 6, 1941, prior to the war, from New Haven, Connecticut. He was noted, at that time, as being employed in the fabrication of textile products and also as Single, without dependents. Raymond served as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on C-87 #41-23669, 3rd Squadron, 1st Ferry Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

C-87 #41-23669 took off, with a crew of 6, from Yangkai, China on a cargo mission to Chabua, India. After take off this C-87 was not heard from or seen again and the entire crew went missing. Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1Lt Ziolkowski was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
