Ioannis E. Tsankaris was born in 1915. He enlisted in the Army on February 14, 1943 in Indiana. Ioannis was a volunteer with ties to Greece that assisted the OSS Greek Operational group in 1944 as they aided the Greek armed resistance in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died in 1998 and is now buried in the Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana, USA.
