Robert Stafford “Boots” Shepherd, Jr. was born on March 6, 1922 in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He served in the 337th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. He was Radio Operator on B-17 'Dinah Mite' #4339018. He was Killed in Action on February 25, 1945 by a shell burst in the radio room. The plane landed near Diepoldsau, Switzerland. He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. He is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
