Jason W. Jones, Jr. was born in Missouri in 1922. His parents were Jason W. Jones (10 Feb 1899 – 24 Nov 1990) and Mattie C. (Lightner) Jones (3 Feb 1900 – Sep 1973), who were born in Missouri. His parents married at Jackson County, Missouri on September 11, 1920. He had a sister, Pearl (or Janice) Jones (abt 1926 – unk). In 1930 the family lived in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. In April 1935 the family lived at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. In 1940 the family lived at Gallatin Township, Clay County, Missouri (North Kansas City), and his father worked as a merchandise manager at a paint factory.

He completed four years of high school, and worked as a sales clerk. He was single, without dependents, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on July 9, 1941. At the time of his enlistment his residence was Platte County, Missouri, just northwest of Kansas City.

In 1944 he was the Chief Operations Clerk of the 837th Bomb Squadron, 487th Bomb Group (Heavy). This Group was based at Army Air Forces Station 137 near Lavenham, Suffolk, England, and was part of the 8th U.S. Army Air Force in Europe. On June 10, 1944, he flew aboard B-24H 41-29553, and was killed when the aircraft struck a tree and crashed near Poslingford, England. The pilot, Lt George O. Loranger, was also killed. S/Sgt Jones and Lt Loranger were the only men aboard the aircraft. The cause of the crash was unauthorized low flying (buzzing).

S/Sgt Jones is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery.
