Vernon Arzi Post was born in 1920 in Michigan. He was the son of Arza R. Post and Cora Louise Howell Cooper. He served in the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. On February 8, 1945, he took off from airfield A-87 in Etain-Rouvres, France, flew in n°2 of the Firebrick section Red. The 378th flew two missions to attack the main highway bridge west of Cologne at Zieverich, Germany. They dropped the railroad bridge nearby and rendered the highway bridge temporarily impassable. During the first mission, they also destroyed a locomotive and 20 boxcars, but Lt. Vernon Post was lost when his plane dropped to earth near Bovigny, Belgium, 10:15. According to Lt. Milton Mannick, Post simply fell back in formation and "was seen to roll over and go down through the overcast." Post may have been a victim of a faulty oxygen system. 2Lt. Post is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg.
