Curtis Anderson was from California.
He served as a Waist Gunner on B-24 “Sack Time” (42-94841) of the of the 857th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group “The Carpetbaggers”.
On October 9, 1944 the plane was on a training mission flying out of their home base of Harrington. The plane crashed in poor visibility hitting the northern edge of Twizle Head Moss above Holmfirth in the UK (West Yorkshire, England).
Eight of the crew were killed; one missing in action (Watson), and one crew member, Staff Sergeant Curtis Anderson survived.
The purpose of the operation Carpetbagger project was to fly “Special Operations” to deliver supplies to resistance groups in enemy occupied countries; to deliver personnel to the field and occasionally to bring back personnel from the field.
