Osmund Charton Skarning was born on July 27, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of Thorstein H Skarning.
Osmund served in the 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate) as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He died on September 15, 1944, in Belgium, at the age of 23, and is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. SSgt Skarning was killed in battle during the Canal Drive liberation of Belgian Limburg.
