Thelmer Ardale Thompson was born on June 16, 1921, in Fillmore County, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Houston High School, finished a course at W.B.U. at La Crosse, Wisconsin prior to his induction into the army. He left for service on July 29, 1942, received his basic training at Camp Wallace, Texas, he was transferred to Fort Lawton, Washington where he was stationed for six weeks. He then left for duty in the Aleutians in November 1942.

Thompson returned to the states and received further training at Camp Hale, Colorado before going overseas the second time and he landed in England in November 1943. He was with the medical corps of the 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate) of the invasion force in France.

Pvt Thompson was killed in battle during the Canal Drive in September 1944 liberation of Belgian Limburg. He is now buried in the Trinity Cemetery, Spring Grove, Houston County, Minnesota, USA.
