Richard N. Vendetta was born on September 22, 1921. He was the son of Vincenzo and Catherine Vincenzo. He entered service in February 1943.
Richard served in the 309th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed in the mid-air collision of the Douglas C-47A-10-DK Skytrain 42-108873 and C-47A 43-15341 on July 8, 1944, during mass paratroop exercise and crashed near Tinwell, England. A total of 8 crew and 26 paratroopers in both aircraft died.
1Lt Vendetta is now buried in the Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Albion, Orleans County, New York, USA.
