Henry Wieczorek was born on October 20, 1921. He served in the 406th Fighter Squadron, 371st Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the P47-D #42-27603 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 22, 1945, in the outskirts of Mortagne, France, on a dive-bombing mission to Colmar's Pocket in Alsace. At 1:35 PM, at a low altitude, he left his plane due to a mechanical failure. Unfortunately, his parachute did not open. His body was found hanging from a tree, one foot amputated, 500m away east of Mortagne.

1Lt Wieczorek is now buried in the Saint Mary Cemetery, Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio, USA.

Lt Wieczorek's wingman reported seeing Lt Wieczorek's plane crash and fly away from him. Shortly after, a distress call was heard and appears to be from Lt. Wieczorek. At this time, 1st Lt Bernard I Flory, who had been diving under the overcast sky, observed an aircraft at approximately 2500 feet altitude, with a parachute apparently springing from the cockpit. [...] The same afternoon, the HQ of the 371st Group was informed that the body of Lt Wieczorek had been found near Rambervillers, by two members of an MP company.
