Harlow Marcus Truman was born on July 7, 1917, in Syracuse, New York. He was the son of Arthur D. Truman and Bertha M Truman.

Harlow served in the 585th Bomber Squadron, 394th Bomber Group, Medium, as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on the B-26 #42-96224 during World War II. On August 7, 1944, his crew took off from airfield Station 455 in Holmsley South, England, on a mission to bomb the bridge at Nogent-sur-Seine, France. At 1:35 PM, their plane was shot down by flak and crashed 700m northeast of La Goulafrière - Cne de St-Pierre-des-Ifs, southwest of Lisieux. The only survivor in this crash was SSgt Bishop, who evacuated the plane by parachute but was taken as a prisoner.

2Lt Harlow is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
