Robert E. Holtzmann was born in 1924 in Rhode Island. He was the son of Rudolph Holtzmann and Irene Eleanor Thompson Holtzmann.
Robert served in the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private during World War II. He died of wounds on June 6, 1944, in Sainte-Mère-Église, France, caused by a grenade that was hit by German artillery fire shrapnel. This grenade exploded in the pocket of his comrade, killing Pvt Holtzmann and three other paratroopers.
Pvt Holtzmann is now buried in the North Burial Ground, Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island, USA.
