Hugh McKeegan was born on October 24, 1921. He was the son of Daniel McKeegan. He was married to Mildred Gleason McKeegan.

Hugh served in the 524th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator on the B-17 #42-3300 during World War II.

On September 3, 1943, his crew took off from Station 117 airfield in Kimbolton, England, for a bombing mission to Evreux-Fauville, France. At 09:55H, their plane was shot down by flak, and it was partially evacuated before it exploded. Two bodies were found in the plane. The rest who were able to bail out was taken as prisoners (including TSgt McKeegan) except for SSgt Frydryk, who was killed by landing on a tree. Their airplane crashed at La Livree - 1 km southeast of Epinay. TSgt McKeegan was brought to Stalag Luft 4 in Gross-Tychow, Poland.

He died on June 21, 1977, at the age of 55. He is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA.
