Ronald William Jacobs was born on September 30, 1917, in Ohio. He served in the 524th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator on the B-17 #42-3300 during World War II.

On September 3, 1943, his crew took off from Station 117 airfield in Kimbolton, England, for a bombing mission to Evreux-Fauville, France. At 09:55H, their plane was shot down by flak, and it was partially evacuated before it exploded. Two bodies were found in the plane. The rest who were able to bail out was taken as prisoners (including 2Lt Jacobs) except for SSgt Frydryk, who was killed by landing on a tree. Their airplane crashed at La Livree - 1 km southeast of Epinay. 2Lt Jacobs was sent to Stalag III in Sagan-Silesia, Poland.

He died on February 18, 1985, at the age of 67. He is now buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA.
