Thomas Donald Peifer was born on July 24, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted on February 23, 1942, and at the time of his death, was serving in the 524th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier on the B-17 #42-3300.

On September 3, 1943, his crew took off from Station 117 airfield in Kimbolton, England, for a bombing mission to Evreux-Fauville, France. At 09:55H, their plane was shot down by flak, and it was partially evacuated before it exploded. Two bodies were found in the plane. The rest who were able to bail out was taken as prisoners (including 2Lt Peifer) except for SSgt Frydryk, who was killed by landing on a tree. Their airplane crashed at La Livree - 1 km southeast of Epinay. 2Lt Peifer was sent to Stalag Luft 7A in Moosburg, Germany.

He died on January 23, 1996, at the age of 75. He is now buried in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, Des Plaines, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
