John Bernard Goettke was born on August 31, 1922, in Hamilton County, Ohio. He was the son of H Bernard Goettke and Clara Rose Schehl Goettke.
John served in the 908th Field Artillery Battalion, 83rd Infantry Division, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the Piper L-4 Code 47 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 10, 1944, in the crash of his plane after being shot by flak. His plane exploded in mid-air and crashed in Dinard/Pleurtuit in France. 1Lt Goettke is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
