Joseph Adrien Gaston Perron was born on August 19, 1944, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of Wilfred Thomas Perron and Florence Couturier Perron of Edmundston, New Brunswick; the dear brother of Robert Perron of Port Cartier, Quebec, and Mrs. Elmer Theriault Colette. Upon completion of his studies at L'Ecole Cormier, he enlisted in the US Army on November 27, 1963, in Madawaska, Maine, USA.

Joseph arrived in Vietnam for duty in February 1966, where he was assigned to and served with the 605th Transportation Company, 34th GS Group, USARV. SP5 Perron felt ill and was medically evacuated to the US Army Walter Reed Medical Hospital in Washington, D.C. An emergency operation on his lungs was performed but was unsuccessful. Military authorities reported that he passed away at 5 pm on September 7, 1966.

His remains were transported home to Edmundston and interred on September 12, 1966, in the Cimetière de l'Immaculée-Conception.
