Tadeusz “Sonny” Sosniak was born on February 12, 1931, in Burlington, Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada.

He served as a Master Sergeant with Detachment A-104, (Ha Thanh), Bravo Company, 5th Special Forces Group, USARV. At 0730 hours on August 30, 1968, CAPT James W. Jones, CWO William L. Vick, and SGT John R. Beck responded to an urgent request from Special Forces to render safe and recover an unexploded 122mm rocket that had impacted within the Special Forces Camp at Ha Thanh, located 25km west of Quang Ni in Southern I Corps. CAPT Jones, CWO Vick, and SGT Beck arrived at the Special Forces Camp via chopper at 1035 hours. They walked uphill to S-3 operations, entered the operations shack, and were receiving verbal instructions on the locations of the dud round when at 1040 hours an incoming 122mm made a direct hit on the shack. CAPT Jones, CWO Vick, SGT Beck two Special Forces personnel, intelligence specialist MSGT Tadeusz Sosniak and radio operator PFC Richard E. Traster, and a civilian interpreter were killed in the blast and five were wounded from this one round.
