Edward Earl “Edy” Hunt was born on May 5, 1919, in Fresno, Fresno County, California. He was the son of Bruce Laverne Hunt.

He joined the Army Reserve and qualified as a pilot with the rank of Second Lieutenant on May 20, 1943. He was posted to the 355th Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group in 1943 and joined Great Britain in November. At the end of the year, he had a total of 473 flight hours, including 243 hours of training. On November 8, 1944, he was killed in combat 15 miles from Mirecourt in the Vosges aboard his P-51D-5 #44-13559, a victim of flak or bad weather. He hit a hill at 17h. At the time of his disappearance, he had 7 confirmed victories in air combat, including 1 in collaboration, and had accumulated 877 flying hours. He had received 2 DFCs and 16 air medals.
