Ray Wallace Allen was born on January 21, 1917. He was the son of Robert Ray Allen and Fern Wallace Allen. He served in the 95th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of a P-38 Lightning during World War II. He was Killed in Action when he was shot down by German fighters while escorting American bombers on a combat mission near Vienna on June 26, 1944. 2Lt Allen is now buried in the Girard Township Cemetery, Girard, Macoupin County, Illinois, USA.
