Earl Wayne Shireman was born on September 18, 1921, in Indiana. He was the son of Harvey L. Shireman and Maude Emma Smith Shireman. He was the husband of Pearl Mae Liebert Luther.
Earl had a grammar school education, had a civil occupation as a farm hand, and was married upon enlistment. He was employed by E. I. Dupont - Powder Plant prior to his enlistment. He enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 5, 1942. Earl served in Company A, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 22, in Vierville-sur-Mer, during the American assault on Omaha Beach in France. PFC Shireman is now buried in the Central Cemetery, Central, Harrison County, Indiana, USA. He has a cenotaph located in the Rehoboth Cemetery, in Laconia, Indiana.
