Herbert Owen Meredithe Lambert was born on June 26, 1912, in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. He was the son of Richard Morten Lambert and Claudia Hill Lambert of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Herbert served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was first assigned as a platoon commander of anti-tank guns with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. After recuperating from a wound in France, he was assigned as the commanding officer of "A" Company of the Lincoln and Welland.
Major Lambert was Awarded the Military Cross for his actions in Bergen Op Zoom, where he and 13 men held off at least 100 Germans in the Becker factory armed only with grenades.
Major Lambert was killed in action at Kapelsche Veer fighting the German Paratroopers at the ferry crossing, while personally leading his men into action against heavy machine gun and mortar fire.
