James Louis Guichard was born on August 21, 1904, in Pinconning, Bay County, Michigan. He was the son of George Louis Guichard and Carolyn Mae Henderson Murdoch.

James served in the #207 Squadron (Semper Paratus) of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer Class II during World War II. A crew member on the Lancaster I R5695, which took off at 15h04 from RAF Langar, England, he was declared Missing in Action on November 25, 1942, when his aircraft failed to return from an operational flight between Barnstone, Nottinghamshire, and Haselunne, Germany.
