Edward Everett “Ted” Hale, Jr. was born on March 12, 1916, in Portland, Clackamas County, Oregon. He was the son of Edward E. Hale and Dorelle S. Hale; husband of Corinth Winston Eckman Hale, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
A mechanic by trade residing in the Castle Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, he enlisted in the RCAF on August 15, 1940 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He had previously served with the Marine Corps from 1935-1939, final duty with Marine Bombing Squadron Two, Aircraft Two, FMF, Naval Air Station, San Diego, California in 1939.
Edward was a crew member on Vickers Wellington Ic R1759 bomber aircraft, which, while returning from a night air operation over Hamburg, Germany, drifted too far north and crashed into the North Sea off Whitby, Yorkshire. All aboard perished; only two bodies were recovered for burial.
