Spencer Griffith Kimmel was born on November 10, 1911, in Gordon, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Frederick Elmer Kimmel and Violet Winified Griffith Kimmel. He was the husband of
Miriam Clemens Robertson Hoverkamp.
Spencer served in the 105 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was killed on February 26, 1943, when his Mosquito aircraft # DZ 413, which took off at 16h46 from RAF Marham, England, had collided with Mosquito DZ 365. His aircraft crashed at 18h44 in the commune of Le Rheu, France. Spencer was buried in the East Cemetery at Rennes, France, exhumed, and reburied in the Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery.
