Claude Lorraine Love was born on November 15, 1918, in Doles, Worth County, Georgia. He was the son of Claude L. Love and Sadie Odom Love.

Claude served in the 142 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. On August 5, 1942, aboard Wellington #Z1487, his crew took off at 23h09 from RAF Grimsby, England, for a mission to St Nazaire, France. Shot down by flak at Fort Larron, their aircraft crashed at the Port of Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile, killing all the lives of the 5 crew members.
