James Joseph Snyder was born on December 31, 1918, in Parsons, Labette County, Kansas. He served in the #23 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 26, 1943, when his Vickers Wellington X1695 aircraft, with six aircrew members on board, crashed near Halvergate in Norfolk after it had broken up in the air. Five airmen lost their lives in the crash, and another died of his injuries on the following day. The airmen who perished in this accident were- RCAF Sergeant James Joseph SNYDER, RCAF Sergeant Joseph Samuel CORNFIELD, RCAF Flying Officer Dalton Ross Alexander MacDOUGALL, RCAF Pilot Officer Robert Portor LOVE, RAFVR Sergeant Brian Patrick ENRIGHT and RAFVR Sergeant Thomas James WHALLEY.
