Edward Joseph Walters was born on March 27, 1917, in Oakmont, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Anna Walters, of Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

Edward served in the 617 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was Killed in Action on December 10, 1943, Lancaster aircraft #ED 825, which took off at 20h35 at Tempsford, was shot down by flak at Meharicourt, France, on an SOE mission to northern France. His aircraft crashed at the commune of Doullens. He had been slightly injured on December 17, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft had the starboard engine fail and the pilot made a forced landing at the Harfaxtog Landing.
