Claude Brown Stephenson was born on February 28, 1917, in Seattle, King County, Washington. He was the son of Albert R. Brown and Alma Natalia Nelson Stephenson. When he was 2 years old, his father died while serving in the Army during World War I at Fort McDowell, Arizona. His Mother married William Wilder Stephenson when he was 5 and Claude changed his name from Brown to Stephenson. He was married to Elsie Marie Norris.
He served in the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Platoon Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 26, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
