John Paul Slade was born on July 16, 1893, in Clay Center, Clay County, Kansas. He was the son of Orien L. Slade and Lorinda John Slade. He was married to Mildred Dyer.
John Slade was a former student at Kansas State Agricultural
College (now Kansas State University). He served in Battery D, 121st Field Artillery Regiment, 32nd Division, as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He died from pneumonia on September 17, 1918, in the hospital La Courneau, Camp Hunt in France. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Clay County, Kansas, USA.
