Robert Gayle Nimocks was born on November 18, 1895, in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. He was the son of Robert Mitchell Nimocks and Mary Murchison "Minnie" Culbreth Nimocks. He was the husband of Evelyn Arline Messick Hoagland.
He served in the U.S Air Service as a Lieutenant and Reserve Military Aviator during World War I. He died in an accident on September 2, 1918, when the wings of his aircraft broke off during a training flight in Cazaux, Gironde, Aquitaine (Guyenne), France. He was buried at Cross Creek Cemetery #2, Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA.
