Frank H Beaufort, Former Montgomery Man,
Reported Missing From Flying Corps.
Mother Receives Cablegram While on a Visit to Her Sister Here;
Was Formerly Student of Auburn.
Lieut, Frank H Beaufort, of the British Royal Air Forces, a resident of Mobile
who formerly lived in Montgomery, is missing somewhere in France. His
mother, Mrs e.e. Penle, of Mobile who is on a visit to her sister, Mrs J.N.
Vaughn, No308 North McDonough Street, received a cablegram from the
British Air Ministry advising her that her son has been missing a week. The
message was dated Aug 20 and was signed by the secretary of the British Air
Ministry. It Said:
"Regret to inform you that Lieut. F.H. Beaufort, Royal Air forces, is reported
missing on August 13. Letter follows"
Lieutenant Beaufort was in Montgomery last December in the uniform of a
British aviator and was the first airman to appear in this city in the English
aviation garb. He is a man of magnificent physique, being 6 feet, 2 inches tall
and weighing 185 pounds. He is a typical blonde and his many friends here
pronounce him one of the finest physical specimens to be found anywhere. He
is 27 years old.
He is a native of Pensacola, but was reared and received his early education in
Mobile and Montgomery. After attending a military school at mobile, he
became a student at Auburn. He was always proud of the fact that his mother
was an English woman, being a native of Liverpool, England, and at his first
opportunity after the war started he seized the opportunity to render service
to Great Britain by joining her air forces.
