Comments:

Freeman Goff Squires was a son of Virgil B. Squires (a stone mason) and Elizabeth Laverna Gaston. The eighth of their ten children, he had five brothers and four sisters. He was sometimes known by his middle name Goff. At the time of the 1910 Census, he was a glass worker. When he registered for the military draft in June 1917, he was working as a chauffeur. One of the questions on the draft registration form was "Do you claim exemption from draft (specify grounds)?" His answer was "Father & Mother to support." He was drafted into the Army, rank Private, unit Co D, 310th Rep Shop Unit, Motor Trans Corps. In 1930, his mother participated in some way in the World War I Mothers Pilgrimage, but it appears unlikely that she actually traveled from West Virginia to her son's grave in France. http://pilgrimageofremembrance.com/ Source: http://www.doddridgecountyroots.com/tng/getperson.php?personID=I13537&tree=dcr
